Sanguinho

We suggest you go on a walking tour through the Faial da Terra valley,  to the east of the little town of Povoação. We will start by following the bank of the stream, amongst lush vegetation, until we get to a waterfall known as the “Salto do Prego” , where we can bathe in the refreshing, crystal clear water . Then we will continue our way to the hamlet of Sanguinho.

Sanguinho is an ancient hamlet located in a small fajã de altitude (an elevated flat strip of land) in the Faial da Terra valley. With approximately 20 dwellings, this hamlet has been deserted since the 1970s. A project to restore the buildings was recently started, using ancient techniques and traditional materials. In addition to this project, the old orchard has been recuperated and the surrounding plots of land have once again been cultivated.

After the visit to Sanguinho, the walking tour continues, descending to the point of departure. Throughout the tour, you’ll be able to enjoy the magnificent landscape of the Faial da Terra valley with the ocean as a backdrop.
